WINE PAIRING OF THE WEEK: NIAGARA’S TRIUS RED AND A JUICY LAMB POT PIE
Trius Red 2013, VQA, Niagara Peninsula
VINTAGES#: 303800, $ 23.95.
This iconic Niagara red blend comes in a cool commemorative bottle in a celebration of its 25th vintage. Vinified with 55% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes following 12 months of oak barrel aging. Full in body with grippy tannins. Lovely depth of aromas and flavours with layers of ripe dark fruit, mocha and smoke, leading to a long, lingering cedar-toned finish. A given as a pairing with grilled or slow-roasting lamb. Drink now through 2024. Tasted June 2016/91.
For a perfect mid-week winter meal, try this mouth-watering red with a juicy Lamb Pot Pie. This is my favourite “Lamb, red wine and rosemary” pot pie recipe from the Good Food Magazine.
It’s as delicious as it looks and super easy to make. Delicate yet robust it presents very well. Consider it also as an elegant dinner party main as it is a true crowd-pleaser.
Bon Appetit & Cheers!!
