Organically grown fruit for this amazing value classic Rioja comes from the high altitude estate vineyards near Alfaro in the southern part of the province. Fresh and fruit-forward with abundant aromas and flavours of ripe black cherries, blackberries and plums. Superfine, silky tannins. Beautifully balanced, smooth and supple. Closes in a seductive, lingering smoke-hued finish. Perfect companion to mature cheeses and Spanish style tapas. Score: 91/100. Tasted November 2017. VINTAGES#: 511576, $ 15.95.

A tapa in Spanish is an appetizer or a snack. It can simply be a selection of cold bites, such as olives and/or cheese. The more elaborate hot version would include fried battered fish and seafood.
